Clay Buchholz created the Clay Buchholz Foundation with his wife Lindsay in March 2013 to provide health, educational and sports opportunities to improve the lives of children in need. The Foundation's inaugural beneficiaries include Christopher's Haven and Pitching in for Kids, two New England area nonprofit organizations that provide resources and programs directly to children needing special assistance.
Dustin Pedroia's "Pedroia's Platoon" ticket program will support military members, inviting them and their families to meet him during batting practice and watch a game at Fenway.
Through this special ticket program, Red Sox players and coaches donate tickets to highly deserving members of the community, such as teachers, military personnel, police officers, fire fighters, and community organizations. The program was started as an effort to recognize role models and to say thank you to all those in the community who make this world a better place to live.
Red Sox player's wives play an important role in community outreach efforts with their commitment to many important causes. The wives actively support the Red Sox Foundation by volunteering and participating in events like the Run to Homebase and Fenway to the Runway. The Red Sox players and their wives make appearances at schools, youth groups and hospitals. Many of the players and their wives purchase game tickets and food vouchers for kids, or provide direct financial support for youth groups.
