During the development period, the Marlins project that $515 million will be spent to construct the proposed ballpark and an estimated $94 million to construct a parking garage. These construction expenditures also will create indirect and induced spending that will further benefit the local Miami community, including 5,000 jobs generated over the course of the construction and generated fiscal revenue for state and local governments.
Once Marlins Park is completed and the Marlins are playing in the new facility, non-local visitor expenditures and other activities occurring in the ballpark will produce significant economic benefits for the Miami economy on an on-going basis, including full-time employment opportunities, yearly fiscal revenue, as well as increase economic output.
During the first five years of operation, Marlins Park also is expected to host at least two Major League Baseball "Jewel Events," namely an All-Star game and one of the major rounds of the World Baseball Classic. If Miami is selected to host the Major League All-Star Game and/or the World Baseball Classic, many out-of-town visitors will be drawn to Miami for these events, and the city will receive significant amounts of favorable media exposure. Additionally, if the Marlins capture the National League Championship, then Miami would host the Marlins' home game portions of the World Series. Based on the experiences of markets similar to Miami that have hosted these types of Jewel Events, it is likely that Miami would receive an economic impact in at least the $50 to $60 million range when hosting any such Jewel Events.
The Marlins, together with Hunt/Moss, A Joint Venture, are working closely with the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County in assisting workers find employment through the Miami Works Initiative. The Miami Works program is a partnership with South Florida Workforce, Access Miami, Work America, and other local labor unions. Registering will allow job matching for potential employment on this project, as well as other potential employment opportunities that may be available throughout the County. Participants of the Miami Works Initiative may also be eligible to receive on-site job training and specialized skills for work opportunities in the construction sector.
