MIAMI -- For months, the Marlins have been getting plenty of attention, with their move to Miami and a number of high-profile acquisitions.
The new-look Marlins will be heading to Spring Training at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla., on Feb. 22, but before taking the field, the team will be branching out into the community.
Next week, the Marlins Caravan for the Community will get rolling, featuring stops throughout South Florida.
The annual caravan is a popular event that sends players, coaches and team representatives to interact with the public. A number of events will be private, but several are either open to the general public or offer fans the opportunity to purchase tickets to venues where the Marlins will be present.
The caravan will be presented in cooperation with Marlins Ayudan. The volunteer program features front-office and team employees who will take part in a variety of events, including a school beautification project with City Year, a fishing tournament with local veterans from the Red Cross at Shake-A-Leg in Miami, and a visit to Miami Children's Hospital.
In addition, Marlins players will host a field day for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
A highlight of the week will be the Jiffy Lube and Mercedes-Benz of Fort Lauderdale Marlins Celebrity Golf Classic at Miccosukee Golf & Country Club. This popular fund-raiser features current and former players, as well as coaches and front-office officials.
