WASHINGTON -- The Phillies will activate right-hander Mike Adams from the disabled list before Sunday's series finale against the Nationals.
They optioned right-hander B.J. Rosenberg following Saturday's 5-3 victory to make room for Adams on the roster.
Adams has been on the disabled list because of a strained back. He threw a bullpen session Friday in Clearwater, Fla., and while he appeared rusty after not pitching since May 10, the club declared the veteran good enough to go.
Adams is 1-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 17 appearances this season.
Kratz: 'No ill effects' from collision at plate
WASHINGTON -- A big collision at home plate?
Yeah, no big deal.
Phillies catcher Erik Kratz brushed off his collision with Tyler Moore in the fourth inning in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Nationals at Nationals Park. Kratz was standing in front of the plate when he took the throw from center fielder Ben Revere. Moore ran hard into Kratz, who held onto the ball.
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Kratz sustained a few bruises, but Kratz said those bruises on his right leg came from foul tips behind the plate.
"No ill effects," Kratz said.
Galvis slides up in order, Revere slides down
WASHINGTON -- Freddy Galvis is going to be the team's second baseman until Chase Utley returns from the disabled list.
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel hit him second Saturday against the Nationals, dropping Ben Revere to eighth.
"I like him in the No. 2 hole because he has been getting his hits," Manuel said of Galvis. "He can do some things. I put him up there tonight because I wanted to put a switch-hitter up there, but not only that, I wanted to put Ben down so if he gets on, he might steal a bag for us or something, and we can get them in scoring position."
Manuel said he is wrestling with where to hit Revere in the lineup. Revere started the season as the team's leadoff hitter, playing there 17 times. But he also has hit second five times, seventh seven times and eighth nine times.
"When Ben is really hitting good, the top of the order is maybe where he belongs. I don't know yet," Manuel said. "I'm still trying to find where he fits best."
