Toronto's Carlos Delgado named American League Player of the Week
tickets for any Major League Baseball game
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Carlos Delgado has been named Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 5. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Delgado tied for the AL lead with three homers last week. In six games, he batted .381 (8-21) with a .857 slugging percentage, a .519 on-base percentage, six runs, and seven RBI. The two-time All-Star had an RBI single during Toronto's two-run seventh inning in a 4-2 win over Seattle on Wednesday. The club's all-time RBI leader also hit a two-run homer in the third inning of a 13-5 victory over Oakland on Sunday, giving him 42 RBI in his last 40 games. This is Delgado's ninth career weekly award.

Other candidates for this week's award were Anaheim's Garret Anderson (.423, 7 RBI); Baltimore's Jay Gibbons (.389, 3 HR, 7 RBI), Rafael Palmeiro (.400, 2 HR, 7 RBI) and Brian Roberts (.423, 1 HR, 6 RBI); Paul Konerko (.304, 3 HR, 5 RBI) of the Chicago White Sox; Cleveland's Omar Vizquel (.417, 4 RBI); and Detroit's Ivan Rodriguez (.438, 3 RBI).

Pitchers on this week's ballot were Boston's Curt Schilling (2-0, 3.38 ERA); Sidney Ponson (1-0, 1 SHO) of the Orioles; Detroit's Nate Robertson (1-0, 1 CG); and Kansas City's Jimmy Gobble (1-0, 1 CG).
