In all, the Marlins promoted four of their Minor Leaguers to the 40-man roster. Joining Mattison are lefty relievers Ramon Benjamin and Dan Jennings, as well as right-handed starter Tom Koehler.
Miami's 40-man roster is now at 39.
Friday is the deadline to set rosters in preparation for the Rule 5 Draft, which will take place at the end of the Winter Meetings next month in Dallas.
Mattison, 26, is a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native who went to the University of North Carolina at Asheville. A left-handed hitter and thrower, he played in 130 games at Double-A Jacksonville, batting .260 with 17 doubles, 16 triples, eight home runs and a .353 on-base percentage.
Mattison, who sports a handlebar mustache, has been a standout in the AFL, where he is hitting .349 with two doubles, five triples and six home runs in 25 games.
Benjamin is a 24-year-old who went 5-1 with a 3.29 ERA in 27 relief appearances with Jacksonville.
Koehler, 26, is coming off a 12-7 (4.97) season at Triple-A New Orleans. The right-hander promises to offer depth to the rotation.
Jennings, 24, started off at Jacksonville and moved up to New Orleans during the season. The lefty appeared in 45 games, and he had four saves and a 5.27 ERA in 56 1/3 innings.
