Coghlan's struggles result in demotion to Minors
By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com
Coghlan, who didn't start on Wednesday, is hitting .140 in 93 at-bats. He had been in an 0-for-16 slump since collecting two hits in Philadelphia on June 3.
Miami is off on Thursday.
Justin Ruggiano started in center field on Wednesday, and he's been playing mostly against left-handed starters, but manager Ozzie Guillen said on Tuesday that Ruggiano could start seeing time when a right-hander is on the mound.
The Marlins have not said who will be joining the team when they open their three-game set against the Rays on Friday, but it's expected to be Scott Cousins, who is batting .292 in 50 games at New Orleans. A left-handed hitter, Cousins has seven home runs and 32 RBIs.
Cousins had two at-bats for New Orleans on Wednesday, and is batting .371 in his past 10 games.
Cousins is on the 40-man roster and he can play all three outfield positions.
Bryan Petersen does not appear to be a choice, because he was optioned to Triple-A on Friday. Barring a player going on the disabled list, teams have to wait 10 days to recall a player after he is sent down.
