Gibbons spent one season in the Padres' organization before returning to Toronto earlier Tuesday morning. The Missions will bring back pitching coach Jimmy Jones for the 2013 campaign. Jacque Jones, who clubbed 165 homers during his 10-year career from 1999-2008, will join San Antonio as the club's hitting coach. He spent the 2012 season with Class A Fort Wayne.
The organization selected Pat Murphy as the manager of Triple-A Tucson. Murphy, who spent time in the Padres' farm system in the '80s, served as manager of the short-season Eugene Emeralds the last two years. He will enter his fourth season as a coach in the Padres' organization after spending 15 years as head coach at Arizona State University.
Bronswell Patrick, who made 38 Major League appearances in 1998-99, will serve as Tucson's pitching coach and Tom Tornincasa will be the club's hitting coach. Patrick will commence his sixth season in the organization and Tornincasa will begin his 14th year, though the 2013 campaign will be the first for both coaches at the Triple-A level.
Shawn Wooten, who played in parts of six Major League seasons from 2000-05, returns for his second year as manager for Class A Lake Elsinore. David Newhan, who broke into the big leagues with the Padres in 1999, returns as the team's hitting coach. Brian Lawrence, a right-handed pitcher who made 146 starts for the Padres from 2001-05, will be the Storm's pitching coach. Lawrence debuted as a pitching coach in the independent Frontier League last season.
Class A Fort Wayne will continue another year under the guidance of manager Jose Valentin, who directed the TinCaps to the Midwest League Championship Series in his first season in 2012. Willie Blair will return as the team's pitching coach and Morgan Burkhart, who spent the last four years as a manager in the independent leagues, has joined the club as its hitting coach.
