Marlins unveil 2013 Spring Training schedule
By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com
On Friday, the team announced its 2013 Spring Training schedule, which includes 16 home games and 20 games total at the complex it shares with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The schedule also includes an exhibition against the Venezuelan World Baseball Classic team.
Under the direction of new manager Mike Redmond, Marlins pitchers and catchers will begin workouts on Feb. 11 after completing their physicals. Full-squad workouts are set for Feb. 15, pending the players' completion of their physicals.
This marks the 11th spring the Marlins have made Roger Dean Stadium their home.
Redmond will take over a youthful Miami squad, which features 23-year-old All-Star Giancarlo Stanton. Last season, Stanton's 37 home runs were second most in the National League behind Milwaukee's Ryan Braun.
Miami's Grapefruit League schedule gets under way on Feb. 23, with a 1:05 p.m. ET start against the Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium. The Marlins will be the home team.
In all, the Marlins will play 32 exhibition games and 31 Grapefruit League contests. Their schedule includes the Yankees (March 8) and Red Sox (March 11) visiting Jupiter.
The Venezuelan WBC squad will play Miami on March 5.
The Marlins and Cardinals will meet four times, while Miami will face the Mets three times and the Nationals twice. The Twins will be in Jupiter on March 1, and the Braves are in town on March 13.
Miami also will host the defending American League champion Tigers on March 25.
Season-ticket packages and six-plus game plans are the best options to ensure great seats for the Yankees and Red Sox games.
