McGehee breaks bat over knee, wishes he didn't

MIAMI -- Bo Jackson has nothing on Casey McGehee when it comes to snapping lumber in half.
In the eighth inning on Tuesday night, McGehee had an emotional outburst after striking out. After swinging and missing, the Marlins third baseman snapped the bat over his right knee.
After the Marlins pulled out a 4-3 walk-off victory over the Rangers in 10 innings, McGehee sported a pine tar stain on his pants. Teammate Christian Yelich, who was fired up by the event, was given the split-in-half bat as a souvenir.
One of the veteran leaders on the youthful Marlins, McGehee regretted his actions.
"I really wish I wouldn't have done that," the 31-year-old third baseman said. "It's stupid. It's not the bat's fault."
McGehee was upset at himself because he struck out against Shawn Tolleson with two on in a tie game.
It's not the first time in his career that McGehee has split a bat over his knee. Actually, he did it last year in Japan when he was playing for the Rakuten Golden Eagles.
There have been a number of players through the years to break a bat over their knees. Jackson made the practice famous.
Looking at the big picture and the example that it sets, McGehee wishes he kept his emotions more under control.
