Was a 26th-round selection of the Cincinnati Reds in 2003 First-Year Player Draft and spent three and a half seasons in the Reds system before ending his career in the Blue Jays' organization. Had a .235 career average with eight home runs and 82 RBI in 192 games...In his first professional season, led the Gulf Coast Leaguein doubles (20) and ranked third in extra-base hits (22). Posted a 5x5 game with five doubles, three runs scored and three RBI on July 17, 2003 at GCL Twins.
Jeffrey Urgelles (ur-ghel-less)...married to former Melissa Diaz, and couple has one daughter, Victoria, and son, Javier...prior to joining Marlins, Urgelles was a firefighter/paramedic for Miami-Dade Ambulance...on August 20, 2012, while warming up for a road game in Arizona, Urgelles and MLB Umpire Jim Joyce saved the life of a game day employee who had collapsed in cardiac arrest...Marlins honored Jeff with a contribution to start a CPR class for kids at local Boys & Girls Club...has partnered with Marlins Foundation and local American Heart Association to start Compression for Life Program, a program geared to teaching heart health and providing CPR and first aid training to youth at Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade.... graduated from Southwest Miami High School (FL)...earned associate's degree in liberal arts from Broward Community College, where he was Second-Team All-Conference...transferred to Savannah State University and was a First-Team All-Conference selection.
